Throttle Time

PLEASE NOTE: Our Throttle Time Program is currently on-hold. Please be patient while we make this program bigger and better!

Have you ever wanted to operate a diesel locomotive? You can at the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum! Our Throttle Time Program allows you to climb up into the cab of real diesel engine, pull back on the throttle, ring the bell and blow the horn. Learn how to handle a real locomotive with supervised engineer experience.

The program is open to anyone 18 years of age or older who holds a valid driver's license, can meet the physical standards, and other requirements. All time slots must be reserved in advance, as availability is limited. We reserve the right to cancel appointments and change equipment as needed.

• Ticket Prices

  Each 30-minute time slot is $120. You may purchase as many time slots as you wish to extend your experience, but all time slots must be consecutive. You can purchase time slots on different dates.

• Event Details

  There are several restrictions for our Throttle Time program. There are no exceptions!

  • Participants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Participants must carry a valid driver's license.
  • Participants must meet certain physical requirements and be capable of climbing into the cab of a locomotive.
  • Participants are not allowed be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • Other restrictions as required under our FRA waiver will be observed.

  • Trains run rain or shine.
  • No smoking, alcohol or pets allowed on the train.
  • There are no working restrooms on the train.
  • Our vintage railcars have limited handicapped accessibility - please contact us for details.
  • All trains operate on CENTRAL TIME (Chicago time).
  • Train times are approximate and we are not responsible for delays.
  • Please arrive at least 30 minutes early, as late boarding is not permitted.
  • We reserve the right to cancel trips and substitute equipment.
